Nairobi National Park
Nairobi National Park is a unique wildlife sanctuary located just a short drive from the heart of Kenya’s capital city. As the only national park situated within a capital city, it offers a rare blend of urban and wild landscapes. The park is fenced on three sides but open on the southern boundary, allowing wildlife to move freely in and out of the greater Athi-Kapiti plains. Its open grass plains, scattered acacia bushes, and proximity to Nairobi make it a convenient and exciting destination for both locals and tourists.
Wildlife in Nairobi National Park
Despite its urban setting, the park is home to a wide variety of wildlife. Visitors can spot the Big Four (excluding elephants), including lions, leopards, buffalos, and rhinos. It’s one of the best places in Kenya to see endangered black rhinos in the wild. Other commonly seen animals include giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hartebeests, baboons, hyenas, and various antelope species. The park also boasts over 400 recorded bird species, making it a haven for bird enthusiasts.
